In October, 2024, Ontario Craft Brewers commissioned Campaign Research to conduct public opinion polling around Ontario’s alcohol retail landscape. The results revealed broad support for fairer craft beer taxes among Ontarians of all political affiliations.
Some highlights include:
54% of respondents support the recent changes to allow beer and wine to be sold in corner stores
7 out of 10 respondents agree that Ontario should lower craft beer taxes
3 out of 4 respondents said “it was important” to lower taxes on Ontario craft beer companies so that they be more competitive
More than 3 to 1 (69% to 20%), respondents believed that locally owned companies should pay less tax compared to foreign owned companies
